More Blog Changes in 2024 and what K is for…

Happy New Year! While I’m starting a week late thanks to how school schedules shook out for winter break this year and the illness we were all gifted after the holidays, I am happy to share that after a year of really taking the pressure off myself, I’m back to writing a bit more often in 2024…

I’m planning to share a post almost every week on my instagram stories this year, but 2-3 posts will be new posts each month and 1-2 will be either throwback posts or sharing what I’ve written of Phoenix Moms (that month or, again, a throwback post from there). That way I give myself a little more structure and motivation to keep writing than I had last year, but I also leave some wiggle room for the months where things get extra busy. I’m also still planning to take a break during one of the summer months but not sure which one yet. SO, with the plan for the year being a little more laid out, let’s get to the main themes for the year of K!

The first theme of the year is, I think, the most obvious. K is for Kids…
I started this blog after becoming a mom and my kids have been a central part of so many of my favorite posts. I am unabashedly bringing setting this as an intentional focus this year because there’s nothing quite like looking ahead at my oldest kid hitting double digits this year to remind me that I will blink and I won’t have kids at home. I am going to lean into the mom life hard this year and try really hard to focus on less pressure and more enjoying the moments. It is hard to really look at the transition out of the baby stage when so much is just about survival mode into this next phase of balancing so many different kinds of demands and I think those shifts and our memory making together will provide a lot of inspiration for posts this year.

Next… K is for Kaleidoscope
Those of you who read my 2023 wrap up know that I kind of fell in love with the whimsy and beauty of kaleidoscopes this year. So much so that I really want to research more about them this year and potentially start work on a play of some sort themed around them. I have NO IDEA if that will come to fruition but I’m going to explore it. I’m also going to explore more time with actual kaleidoscopes. I got to make one last year and I really want to make more or at least spend more time around this art form. This might be a more random or sporadic category, but I am so excited about it.

K is for Knowledge
I have written before about how I am obsessed with learning. The pursuit of knowledge  and wisdom are central characteristics for me. I also love the chance to share some of my knowledge on specific topics and I realized when I was writing less last year that I missed some chances to do just that. So get ready for my annual book recommendations and a whole lot more!

Finally, K is for “Keep moving forward”:
Is this one stretching the “K” parameters a bit? MAYBE. However, it’s my dang blog so I make the rules and I say it counts. Keep moving forward is one of many beautiful phrases I’ve incorporated into my life thanks to one of my heroes, Tommy Rivs. It was what I repeated to myself over and over during the hardest parts of the NYC marathon. (Do yourself a favor and listen to this amazing podcast if you haven’t heard it.)) I will be using this theme to talk about physical races (like how I am doing a half marathon again with Team World Vision after a nice long break from longer road races) as well as the goal recaps I used to do. Unlike in years past, I don’t anticipate sharing every single tending list I make in my Powersheets, but I did find that skipping those recaps all together did leave me with a lack of accountability and that I missed checking in and also miss the kind of documentation on what I was working on during a certain season of life that is one of the other points of this blog. So… maybe sharing action items every other month? Maybe quarterly with each goal refresh in the Powersheets? And maybe talking about goal setting and struggles and triumphs on things in general. Keep moving forward.

MONTHLY themes are back as well! They won’t start this month and I can’t even promise they’ll show up every month, but I had some really lovely runner up “K” ideas that I didn’t necessarily want to spend the whole year writing about but will give a little variety and additional inspiration as I go back to writing a little more frequently this year.

I’m so excited to share my 2024 goals and word of the year next week! Thank you so much for sticking with me through this very out of fashion blogging thing… I know some of you have been reading for years and some may have just found me and I’m so grateful for all of you!
