Back today with the second half of my 2021 Wrap Up- here to recap my themes of Verso L’alto and Holidays. (IF you missed the first half, you can read about it HERE.) Continue reading
While we LOVE the mountains local to the Phoenix area and could hike them over and over again, we took some trips up north a few times this year and were reminded of how beautifully diverse our country is- and we didn’t even have to travel that far to find that beauty! I wanted to share a few thoughts on that today as well as document some of the stunning sights we saw. Continue reading
The other day one of my local friends who is looking forward to hiking again now that fall weather is approaching (YIPPEE!!!) asked me what my favorite trail was, and it turned out that question felt a lot harder to answer than you might guess… Continue reading
When I chose “Verso L’alto” or “Higher, toward the top” as one of my themes for this year, I kicked it off with a challenge of hiking every day for a month. Part of the reason behind this challenge was to get me out of my normal hiking routine and explore new trails and new mountains! I thought maybe my theme for the year of hiking wouldn’t really count if I wasn’t always going new and flashy places. And it WAS wonderful to explore so many new areas, and I will continue to try and do that, but I have fallen in love with the Phoenix Mountain preserve and while I thought returning there again and again might get boring, I learned during that 31 day challenge that it is anything but… and that realization has only gotten stronger int he months that followed, so today I wanted to expand on that and share a few reasons why hiking at the same mountain preserve over 50 times in less than a year still remains anything but boring…. When I was training for my half marathon back in late 2018/early 2019 I had one possibility that pulled me out of bed to train even on the mornings where I was least interested in doing so and on the evenings when I had insanely long days with the kids… Continue reading
I mentioned in my reflection on 31 days of hiking that the whole experience provoked a TON of thoughts that I wanted to write about eventually… today’s post is one of those I have been drafting for a long time. Some weeks the post just writes itself over the weekend and is ready to post early the next week. Other posts, like this one, sit in drafts for weeks or even months. In both categories, I’ve had posts that feel deeply uncomfortable to actually hit PUBLISH on, but those are usually the ones that end up resonating the most so here we go… Continue reading
After choosing “Verso L’alto” as my “word of the year” I decided to start my year off with a 31 day hiking challenge. (I’ve been sharing my daily hikes on my instagram page if you want more than the pictures I include in this post) I wanted to share a little bit about why I decided to do this and what I learned from 31 days of hiking (almost) daily throughout the month of January… Continue reading
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
It is time to start revealing the themes of the blog this year. I can’t believe this is going to be my SEVENTH year blogging (my first “alphabet year” of A I wasn’t writing about it) so we are on the letter H.
My first H is my “word of the year” even though it is technically a phrase… it is a little bit of Italian from Blessed Pier Giorgio Frassati and the translation of it… Continue reading
