Not That Kind of Mom

I am far from the first person to point out that parents- but especially moms- are under a lot of pressure to have it all, do it all, and be it all. The superwoman complex is abundant and it is so easy for it to find its way under the skin of perfectionists and recovering perfectionists, but no one is immune! Continue reading

Parenting Lying Down

First of all, I promise all my posts aren’t going to be about my pregnancy the rest of the year, and I especially promise they won’t be about my struggle with being sick but I thought this one might be useful to some fellow parents out there….
Up until this summer, I was pretty strict with TV intake for my toddler. The first year of his life I would play music on youtube for him to listen to and dance with, but no TV. Around 18 months we started letting him watch about 20 minutes a day. I don’t think everyone needs to parent that way but I wanted to make sure we were getting out of the house as much as possible and not having TV as part of our regular routine. Continue reading

The Weary World Rejoices…

I’ve noticed that this year many people don’t seem to be feeling the “Christmas spirit” and I’ve noticed that many more just seem downright exhausted. There are countless articles and posts out there about how we should be slowing down for the holidays and make them less stressful, and I completely agree. However, I’m getting the sense that we aren’t all just exhausted from the holidays, we’re exhausted from the whole year. Continue reading

Basics: Food, Drink, Shelter

My toddler has been going through a sleep regression. And it’s tech. So up late, up early- coffee has been my most basic day to day survival and parenting tool. I know this is normal, and it’s not my son’s fault that he’s going through a rough transition of milestones and teething and the weather changing, so taking sips of coffee before I say what I’d like to impulsively helps all of our quality of life stats. A Baker’s Half-Dozen YA Books I can’t wait to Read to My Boy

So I already wrote about the books my son is currently reading… here are my (current, I’m sure it will grow and change) list of 7 books or series I can’t wait for us to read together. A fun and potentially frivolous post… These are just a sampling of what I look forward to… there are SO MANY I could name but it would take much more time than I have to write about them. I can’t rank them either, they are just listed in the order that seemed to flow for me. Continue reading

The Top 9 BOOKS my son is currently obsessed with reading…

IMG_7803You probably already know that toddlers love repetition. My son could listen to itsy bits spider and When Will My Life Begin (the kid is seriously obsessed with Tangled) on repeat for days. Luckily, we have a pretty good rotation of books going on AND, much to our delight, our son is already in love with reading so we have a good handful of books to rotate through instead of just one or two. It isn’t hard to see that story-time is his favorite time of day, but here are the books that make him especially excited: Continue reading

Follow up: Exciting News! What we’ve been budgeting for…

So… you may have noticed that I’ve been extra busy/distracted/a bit stressed recently. I’ve wanted to write about why for the last month or so, but for some reason have been anxious about sharing this news with too many people before it became official, but now I can finally share (No, we are not expecting baby #2… sorry to disappoint those of you who have been asking…): We are going to be homeowners!! Continue reading
