I am far from the first person to point out that parents- but especially moms- are under a lot of pressure to have it all, do it all, and be it all. The superwoman complex is abundant and it is so easy for it to find its way under the skin of perfectionists and recovering perfectionists, but no one is immune! Continue reading

In Praise of Peanut Butter
It has been several months since I could confidently say I’d be able to go anywhere or eat anything… I never know which smells are going to set me off, but I have had one trusty friend who, so far, has been a culinary constant: peanut butter.
Luckily, peanut butter is also a favorite of my little munchkin so we’ve started upgrading this ingredient from topping our snacks (apples with peanut butter has been a main food source this summer as has plain yogurt with peanut butter granola!) to being a star component of our dinners. Continue reading
Arizona Life: Summer is for Salads
So… given my last few posts, this should not come as a surprise… we have not been cooking as much as we were this winter/spring. AT least, not formally cooking. See… it’s summer in Arizona, summer in Phoenix to be more precise which means there have only been a handful of days under 105. Continue reading
Parenting Lying Down
First of all, I promise all my posts aren’t going to be about my pregnancy the rest of the year, and I especially promise they won’t be about my struggle with being sick but I thought this one might be useful to some fellow parents out there….
Up until this summer, I was pretty strict with TV intake for my toddler. The first year of his life I would play music on youtube for him to listen to and dance with, but no TV. Around 18 months we started letting him watch about 20 minutes a day. I don’t think everyone needs to parent that way but I wanted to make sure we were getting out of the house as much as possible and not having TV as part of our regular routine. Continue reading
Lost Days
It has been a very different summer from the one that I expected. Our trip back in May was fabulous but had some bumps in the road and didn’t quite go to plan, my husband was still traveling the end of May, my family went through hard times, and I have been going through some exhausting times as well. And now that we have shared our big news, I can let you all in on some of the REAL reasons I’ve been struggling with blogging and taking big breaks from social media. (Settle in because this is a long post… grab some wine. I’ll sip my cranberry juice and pretend I’m having wine too…) Continue reading
My Favorite Creation
Creating theatre is one of the things that makes me happiest in the world. There are some shows that stick with you for a long long time, whatever capacity you were involved with them. Creating crafts and gifts for others has become an excellent way to have a creative outlet when I’m not working on a large production. Continue reading
Chronicling: Half a Year Down!
OK, so I know that technically the year is more than halfway over, but I was super excited this morning when my shipment from Project Life’s Christmas in July sale arrived at my door after some drama with FedEx… In spite of the rain storm and destroyed box I couldn’t wait to open my order. (I know, I lead a very exciting life… but it’s the little things, right? Especially during a summer in Phoenix.) That arrival meant I could start assembling the first half of our family album for the year. Continue reading
Necessity is the mother of recycling
I wanted to keep up with my pledge of being more regular with my blogging so here’s a quick post on a super easy creative project that happened this week. Continue reading
Creating: Finding the Beauty of Cards
I have to admit a social faux pas that I am guilty of on a regular basis- I frequently forget to send cards on special occasions. I mean, unless we are talking Christmas cards then odds are good I don’t even have stamps on hand because we pay all our bills online now. I can’t tell you how many times I know I’ve disappointed people because I am just really bad at this social gesture of kindness and thoughtfulness but two things have started to help me rehab myself out of card negligence. Continue reading
Weeping for the World and a Dorothy Day quote
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking last week was pretty depressing. I don’t want my social media hiatus to be taken for silence or ignoring the multitudinous problematic events but I’m still not quite sure what to say or do. Continue reading
