I considered calling this recipe Hipster Pie because I heard about it on NPR and because it uses simple ingredients but in strange ways and is apparently very traditional but just gaining popularity, but decided I would stick with a more generally descriptive name… Continue reading

Baking #33: Let the Fall Flavors begin!
So… the lesson I learned from this week’s baking venture is that it’s hard to bake when your stuff is in boxes and you aren’t quite sure where you put everything. I ended up using a pot instead of a mixing bowl to mix my dry ingredients. Continue reading
Baking #32: Homemade Buttery Crescent Rolls
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this is the BUSIEST week of our year (though check in with me again when we hit Tempest tech in 2 weeks…) and so I’m feeling a lot like this:

But baking is a good stand by to stress less right? Continue reading
Baking #31: Happy Birthday Hubby!!
Today is my husband’s birthday. His birthday marks my favorite time of year for a couple reasons: 1. It’s the time of year when we the difference in our age is only one year instead of two (until we get back around to May!) and 2. it’s always the first sign for me that fall is just around the bend! So with that in mind… Continue reading
Baking #30: Double (or triple?) chocolate muffins…
Another busy week where we need easy things to take on the go! This week’s recipe was actually inspired by seeing my stage manager eat a DELICIOUS looking chocolate chocolate chip muffin last week. so I decided to bake some based of of the regular greek yogurt chocolate chip muffin I tried back in May as well as some skinny chocolate muffin recipes I found online.
I wanted to try and bake some chocolate chips into the muffin top but that did not go well and ended up taking away some of the fluffiness as I tried to push the chocolate chips in… oh well, lesson learned!
They tasted pretty good at least, and aside from needing to buy more chocolate chips, it was an easy recipe that utilized things we already had in the pantry or fridge which is good because we just don’t have time for any big grocery trips right now! I have to admit that I wish I hadn’t skimped out and done the “skinny” recipe. I could definitely taste the applesauce substitute and I’d prefer whole milk and sugar to honey any day… Give me good stuff in moderation instead of lots of mediocre stuff!
That’s all for now. As I said before, shorter and fewer blog posts for the next month or so, but I’ll try my best to do what I can!

As usual, Leslie Knope gets me…
Baking #29: Tortillas + Giveaway winner
OK, so this is another project that you don’t technically bake, but it’s main ingredients are flour, oil, and baking soda (and by main I mean those are literally half of the ingredients… the others being water and salt.) so I’m counting it. I have wanted to make homemade tortillas for a while now. We love Mexican food in our family (we love any food that lends itself to intense spice) so we knew this would go over well. Continue reading
Baking #28: My Grandma’s Biscotti
A brief ode to mothers: My grandmother is one of my favorite people in the world. She is sweet, beautiful, and an amazing cook/baker of all things Italian.
Baking # 27: Clara’s Chocolate Cake & Celebrating Company!
We have had a busy week full of wonderful things made even more wonderful by visiting friends. Continue reading
Baking #26: Kona Cafe Sweet Bread
I wasn’t sure I’d get a baking project done this week after the stressful start… but hubby is home today and that gave me a chance to try my hand at some sweet bread! Continue reading
Baking #25: Honey Oatmeal Bread
A short post is better than no post at all:
Well we survived the fist week of summer camp with baby in tow… and it’s been a great experience so far but a total whirlwind so I wanted this week’s baking project to be a little sweet but mostly full of sustenance to get us through another week! I’ve had this recipe pinned for years but until I started all these baking projects I was intimidated to try it with all the waiting time for the bread to rise etc. etc. I’ve been wanting to make this recipe all week but had no time until today and it was worth the wait!
Definitely a recipe we will be trying again! The bread is fluffy but hearty and full of flavor. Having it with some melted butter was heavenly!!
We’re gearing up to head into week 2 of camp and I’m up early this morning finishing this blog post since in my quest to take better care of myself, I went and worked out last night instead of writing and editing. Will definitely be having some of this bread tomorrow as a mid-day snack!
