I have several posts halfway drafted that time has prevented me from posting. So if there’s suddenly a flood of posts, you’ll know why. But for now, I wanted to write a post addressing the fact that several people have asked me since starting this blog how I “do it all” and I wanted to make it very clear: I don’t. Continue reading
Bardolatry: The Tempest Is OPEN!!!
So The Tempest opened on Friday and I am so proud of all the work the cast and crew put into this show. Continue reading
Moving on a Budget
Moving on a budget is hard. Moving on a budget when you are crunched for time is even harder. I won’t lie, I started packing with visions of Pinterest perfect organization- spreadsheets, checklists, countdowns. What ended up happening was a lot closer to chaos. Continue reading
Baking #33: Let the Fall Flavors begin!
So… the lesson I learned from this week’s baking venture is that it’s hard to bake when your stuff is in boxes and you aren’t quite sure where you put everything. I ended up using a pot instead of a mixing bowl to mix my dry ingredients. Continue reading
Budgeting: A Magical Money-saving Place
If you are a regular reader of my blog, you know that I am a huge fan of Amy Poehler and her show Parks and Recreation. I take the worldview of Leslie Knope on several things in life and find inspiration, joy, and perhaps painful recognition in various aspects of her life portrayed on the show, but there is one HUGE point on which she and I vehemently disagree:
Bardology: Gender and The Tempest Cross Post
A week or two ago, one of my blog posts was shared on the Brelby blog to help their audience understand some of what I was going through as a female theatre artist working while bringing my baby to the theatre. Today, I am sharing a blog post my husband and I wrote for their blog. And because that’s the only blogging I had time for since the move… that’s what you get cross posted. here. Here’s my favorite excerpt:
There are many fantastically talented women in our local theatrical community and we don’t want to contribute to the frustrating statistics of how women are underrepresented in this business. We are trusting that the audience has enough imagination to accept that the actress playing Prospero is playing a man just as they are willing to accept that the actress playing Prospero is playing someone who has magical powers. So we aren’t changing the gender of the characters to match the gender of the actors.
Follow up: Exciting News! What we’ve been budgeting for…
So… you may have noticed that I’ve been extra busy/distracted/a bit stressed recently. I’ve wanted to write about why for the last month or so, but for some reason have been anxious about sharing this news with too many people before it became official, but now I can finally share (No, we are not expecting baby #2… sorry to disappoint those of you who have been asking…): We are going to be homeowners!! Continue reading
Baking #32: Homemade Buttery Crescent Rolls
I’m going to go out on a limb and say that this is the BUSIEST week of our year (though check in with me again when we hit Tempest tech in 2 weeks…) and so I’m feeling a lot like this:

But baking is a good stand by to stress less right? Continue reading
Budgeting: Focus on what you’re budgeting FOR
It’s a little embarrassing to admit that the first time I really put myself on a budget was when I was in grad school. Before that budgeting either didn’t exist because I didn’t have to worry about budgeting much more than how I would manipulate my school lunch allowance to get maximum amounts of coffee without passing out from starvation (I had a stressful high school experience) or just the general mantra of I don’t know how much I’m making or how much stuff costs but I live by the basic rule of nope I can’t afford that and make myself miserable. Continue reading
September’s Theme: Budgeting
Wow, can you believe another month has gone by already?! This year is flying. This month’s theme is going to be about budgeting. This wasn’t my original theme of the month, but life being what it is, this has become the pressing idea in my brain- how to better budget our family resources. Not only money but time, energy, etc. Continue reading
