I want to start this post by writing about a little story I’ve been sharing amongst some of my mom friends. It’s a story about what’s been happening when we bring our kids to church- particularly about what happened this past weekend at my daughter’s baptism and at mass the day after. And while it was a beautiful weekend for my daughter, these stories focus on my son… Continue reading

A Goal is a Dream…
I’m sure many of you have heard the saying “A goal is a dream with a timeline” or “A goal is a dream with a plan” and since it’s the new year and I promised I’d share a little bit more about my goals and dreams, now seemed like a good time to write this post. Continue reading
Lost Days
It has been a very different summer from the one that I expected. Our trip back in May was fabulous but had some bumps in the road and didn’t quite go to plan, my husband was still traveling the end of May, my family went through hard times, and I have been going through some exhausting times as well. And now that we have shared our big news, I can let you all in on some of the REAL reasons I’ve been struggling with blogging and taking big breaks from social media. (Settle in because this is a long post… grab some wine. I’ll sip my cranberry juice and pretend I’m having wine too…) Continue reading
Weeping for the World and a Dorothy Day quote
I don’t think I’m alone in thinking last week was pretty depressing. I don’t want my social media hiatus to be taken for silence or ignoring the multitudinous problematic events but I’m still not quite sure what to say or do. Continue reading
Celebrating Marriage
Today my husband and I are celebrating four beautiful years of marriage. On the one hand, seems a little strange to celebrate what I hope is a very short time in the grand scheme of our marriage, but on the other hand it is kind of staggering how much we’ve learned, grown, and loved in the four years since our wedding day. Continue reading
Consistency, Language, and Lent…
I thought I had hit my stride on treating myself well and working out and it all goes so well… until I get tired, until I get bored, until I get sick, until until until… I have so many excuses about not doing things that make me feel GOOD once I’ve done them. All these road bumps get discouraging. No wonder as Christians we have seasons to focus on consistently doing things that don’t always provide immediate gratification. Continue reading
September’s Theme: Budgeting
Wow, can you believe another month has gone by already?! This year is flying. This month’s theme is going to be about budgeting. This wasn’t my original theme of the month, but life being what it is, this has become the pressing idea in my brain- how to better budget our family resources. Not only money but time, energy, etc. Continue reading
Bardology: Tempest Begins + The Next Alphabet Shakespeare
Mini post today because it’s that kind of month and I am BECOMING better at giving myself some grace for the things that don’t get done as perfectly as i would wish or if not as much gets marked off my to do list.
So two major Shakespeare related things are happening in my life right now (three if you count Taming auditions but that is SUPER LOOSELY shakespeare related so I’ll wait until we get into rehearsals to talk about it): Continue reading
Parenting questions that haunt me at night…
I remember getting a few strange responses when I started announcing my pregnancy to friends and family. In amongst the congratulations I had people ask me the following questions (could not make this up if I tried): Continue reading
You Can’t Fake a Deep Breath
In an earlier blog post, I mentioned Kristin Linklater’s awesome quote on how holding your breath makes part of you absent. I think that observation is one of the intimidating things about activities that make you take deep breaths and truly be present- acting, yoga, birth, prayer, rest (not just sleeping but sabbath day take a break or a vacation conscious rest…). All of these activities make me recognize my own humanity, my frailty, my imperfections. Continue reading
