August recap and September goals…

Hello September! AKA it is time for this fall flavor holdout to give into the pumpkin spice side of life and to hope for some mild weather so I can start upping my baking game. Here’s a look at how I did with last month’s tending list and what I’m focusing on this month: Continue reading

Why Hiking at Same Mountain Preserve 50 Times is Anything but Boring…

When I chose “Verso L’alto” or “Higher, toward the top” as one of my themes for this year, I kicked it off with a challenge of hiking every day for a month. Part of the reason behind this challenge was to get me out of my normal hiking routine and explore new trails and new mountains! I thought maybe my theme for the year of hiking wouldn’t really count if I wasn’t always going new and flashy places. And it WAS wonderful to explore so many new areas, and I will continue to try and do that, but I have fallen in love with the Phoenix Mountain preserve and while I thought returning there again and again might get boring, I learned during that 31 day challenge that it is anything but… and that realization has only gotten stronger int he months that followed, so today I wanted to expand on that and share a few reasons why hiking at the same mountain preserve over 50 times in less than a year still remains anything but boring…. Runners High: OR, How Starting is the Hardest Part

When I first started running I was convinced that a runner’s high was a cruel, inhumane lie that runners told other people to trick them into joining in on the misery. So I thought I’d write a post about how I started my running journey and while I will be focusing on running, I think some of the lessons from it apply to starting anything new and difficult. I also have been just really missing running because it is INSANELY hot here in Phoenix already, but I know that summer is prime running time for my readers in other parts of the country so it seemed like as good a time as any to share this! And even if you are not a runner and never become a runner, I believe there are some parallels that will apply to you anyway… Continue reading

April Recap and May Goals

OK, I know this post is a little later than usual, but I really wanted to put up my birthday post while those thoughts were fresh!

April was packed and FLEW by! we had a wonderful Easter celebration and were able to feel some sense of normalcy thanks to family having completed their vaccines and it felt so special. We also enjoyed every second of nice weather and mostly coped with the hotter spells… Here’s the rest of last month’s recap and a look at this month’s goals. Continue reading

Verso L’alto: Switchbacks and Spirituality

Something I love about my word of the year, Verso L’alto, is that it means upwards, and upwards is a direction but not a specific route. This is something I’ve been meditating on a lot the first part of this year, especially when I get some alone time on the trail. Continue reading

31 Day Hiking Challenge: What I learned…

After choosing “Verso L’alto” as my “word of the year” I decided to start my year off with a 31 day hiking challenge. (I’ve been sharing my daily hikes on my instagram page if you want more than the pictures I include in this post) I wanted to share a little bit about why I decided to do this and what I learned from 31 days of hiking (almost) daily throughout the month of January… Continue reading

Welcome Fall: October Goals!

Hello readers… even though part of me wishes we could just skip to 2021, I am grateful that we are about to enter one of my favorite months and favorite seasons. Last month it really helped to slow down and focus on de-stressing and trying to turn my critically low sleep levels around. I found that my availability and space gave me the grace to battle stress and other mental health issues and opened me up to some new ideas and opportunities. Here’s a quick recap and a look at my tending list for October… Continue reading

Olaf and my Mental health

I have young kids in my house- specifically a three year old girl in my house- which means that, like many of her peers, she is constantly requesting the Frozen and Frozen 2 soundtracks be played on repeat. After years with the original movie’s music blasting through our house, I think I’ve become immune to the original soundtrack, but I’ve been surprised to find recently that Frozen 2 songs have become a pretty good barometer about my own mental health during this pandemic… (also… spoiler alerts for frozen 2 ahead… and if you haven’t seen the movie and don’t care… this may not be a post that makes any sense to you anyway and you can totally skip this one!)
